ENSREG approved statement on the safety of nuclear installations in Ukraine

February 27, 2022. European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) in an extraordinary meeting addressed the nuclear safety of the Ukrainian nuclear installations in view of the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine.

In this statement ENSREG urges the Russian Federation to immediately cease unlawful activities in order to restore Operating Organisations’ and State Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Ukraine (SNRIU) control over all nuclear facilities and materials within Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders, in line with the internationally recognised safety standards and security guidance.

“Civilian nuclear installations are not designed for hostilities and therefore in no circumstances can become military targets”, - says Michail Demčenko Head of the Lithuanian State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI).

ENSREG consist of 27 ЕU regulatory authorities.
