Regarding information request on publication about safety issues of Belarusian NPP Unit 1

On 1 December 2020, State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) requested Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) clarification about recently published information on NGO Ecodom internet site about status of Belarusian NPP Unit 1 standby reactor cooling system and potential failures in this system that could influence the safety level of Unit 1 during commissioning.

On 2 December 2020, MES replied VATESI with the same answers as NGO Ecodom already received at the beginning of October. It is stated, that no failures or events which could be classified as emergency events occurred in Belarusian NPP Unit 1 during fuel load to the reactor core.

Clarification and details about status of Belarusian NPP Unit 1 standby reactor cooling system and potential failures in this system which could influence the safety level of Unit 1 during commissioning were missed in the letter.

VATESI repeated the request and expecting clarification and detailed information about Belarusian NPP Unit 1 standby reactor cooling system status and urge Belarusian Authorities to inform immediately about all potential risks or near-miss events the public in the vicinity of NPP and all stakeholders which are concerned about the safety in Belarusian NPP.
