VATESI participated in the international emergency preparedness exercise ConvEx-2c

On 27 November 2018 State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) took part in the international emergency preparedness exercise ConvEx-2c organized by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to the exercise scenario, a radiological incident took place in Ireland where explosions occurred in two different public spaces spreading radioactive material. VATESI partly activated the Emergency Centre and pursued functions of the contact point to other Lithuanian authorities. VATESI specialists provided them official information from foreign countries received through the IAEA information exchange system, analysed the course of the accident, prepared press releases and information for the general public.

Beyond VATESI, other Lithuanian authorities such as The Environmental Protection Agency, The Radiation Protection Centre and Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service also took part in the ConvEx-2c exercise.

Participation in the IAEA exercises helps to improve preparedness and respond to nuclear and radiological accidents of Lithuanian authorities and allows them to test all technical and organizational measures for proper operation in such situations.
