National Report successfully presented in Review Meeting of Convention on Nuclear Safety

National Report presented in the CNS review meeting

On 30 March 2017, Lithuanian delegation successfully presented National Report in the Seventh Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS). This report reflects performed activities of nuclear facility operators and Government institutions during three-year period in ensuring obligations under the Convention.


National Report presents information about performed activities in ensuring safety of permanently shut downed Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, decontaminating and dismantling no more needed systems and spent fuel management. Implemented safety measures under Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety also were presented during the meeting.


Lithuania received 78 questions from reviewing countries: Belarus, Germany, Finland, Japan, Norway, Russian Federation, Pakistan, South Africa, United States of America. Most of them were related on implementation of safety measures resulting from “stress test” performed at Ignalina NPP in 2011, timeline of planning, licencing and construction of new nuclear facilities and new spent nuclear fuel storage facility. All questions were clarified and will be published after the review meeting.

 

Contracting parties in the review meeting approved Lithuania commitments under the Convention.

 

The 80 Parties to the Convention and more than 900 delegates are participating in the Seventh Review Meeting. Lithuania ratified the Convention in 1996.
