Safe decommissioning of INPP and management of radioactive waste is one of the priorities of the Lithuania. In this context, it must be noted that according to provisions of Council Directive 2011/70/Euratom of 19 July 2011 establishing a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste, information exchange with other EU countries is required to create safe and universally accepted programmes for radioactive waste management.

The main tasks of the group is to exchange information about radioactive waste management in the Member States and draw up corresponding legislative texts of this area. Working Groups members are representatives of regulating institutions, radioactive waste management policy setting bodies, and agencies specialising in radioactive waste management.

During day one of the meeting, external session in INPP was organised where participants of the Group meeting have got acquainted with the company’s radioactive waste management system and technologies, and implementation of decommissioning projects. During the second day of the meeting, the group worked according to its pre-set agenda, discussed draft guidelines for MS Reports under Directive, ENSREG WG2 Work Programme 2014 – 2016 and other issues.
