May 28, 2013. The State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) issued the permit to start the commercial operation of a very low-level radioactive waste storage facility (Ignalina NPP Decommissioning Project B19-1).
Very low-level radioactive waste storage facility is the building in the territory of Ignalina NPP. It is planned to store here about 4 thousand cubic meters of low-level radioactive waste. This radioactive waste will be transported for the final disposal to the other facility with non-complex artificial barriers by the campaigns every 2 years. Total amount of very-low level radioactive waste could reach about 60 thousand cubic meters.
