VATESI International Conference participants will discuss nuclear safety challenges

State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) on 9 February 2017 is organizing International Conference "Nuclear safety regulation challenges".

Nuclear safety regulation is the main concern of VATESI. In permanently shut-downed Ignalina NPP ongoing decommissioning works and safety related issues regarding spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management demand developed competencies and exchange experience and good practices with states challenging such issues. In this Conference, we are going to discuss Japanese, US, Poland, France, Sweden, Germany and Lithuanian regulatory and technical support organizations main nuclear safety challenges, says VATESI Head Michail Demčenko.

The Conference programme will cover topics of safe operation of nuclear facilities, decommissioning and spent fuel and radioactive waste management issues. Interesting discussions are expected among the main presenters: IAEA DDG Director for Nuclear Safety and Security
Juan Carlos Lentijo, Director Nuclear Energy, Safety and ITER Massimo Garribba, WENRA chairman Hans Wanner and VATESI colleagues from NRA, US NRC, SSM, PAA regulatory authorities.

On 8 February, Conference guests will visit permanently shut-downed Ignalina NPP where ongoing decommissioning works will be presented.

International Conference is dedicated to commemorate 25th VATESI anniversary.
