Issues of the civil protection exercise preparation were discussed in a exercise planning group meeting of the Norwegian-funded project

On 13-17 June 2022, a meeting of the exercise planning group was held in Tromsø, Norway, with the participation of representatives of the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Department  (PAGD), the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA).

In the meeting of the exercise planning group, the civil protection exercise scenario, strategy of its preparation and evaluation was discussed. Exercise is being planned in Vilnius district in 2023.  

VATESI representatives discussed with the members of the exercise planning group issues related to the practical testing of the software that VATESI plans to acquire. The project funds to purchase software for more accurate predicting of accidents progression at nuclear power plants and characteristics of radionuclides released into environment, as well as to prepare documentation for the use of the software and train VATESI employees to use this software, to ensure technical support of the purchased software.

One of the main goals of the project “Development of the Lithuanian Early Warning System for Nuclear Hazards” funded  by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism is to ensure the safety of the Lithuanian population in the event of a nuclear or radiological accident at the Belarusian NPP by creating a well-functioning public early warning system in Lithuania.
